Cloisonné is the art of applying enamels of all colors to the surface of a metal object, separated by fine soldered/glued wires, which is then fired to become a beautiful work of art. This technique reached its perfection as a result of the efforts of Chinese and Japanese artisans.

Antique Japanese cloisonné bud vase. This piece is of very high quality, as evidenced by the gold fleck treatment in the alternating decorative panels. It measures 4 3/4" at its widest point near the base and is 7 1/4" tall. The top of the bud vase measures 1 3/4". The interior is dark blue "orange peel" enamel, on copper. The vibrant colors in the piece are accentuated by a light gray background on the base, and a yellow/beige neck. The vase is in excellent condition. Circa late 1800's LTFL price: US $ 425 |

Antique Japanese cloisonné vase. This richly colored piece is highlighted by a dark brown background which is accentuated by complementary beige and light gray inserts. The vase also has some gold fleck treatment throughout. It measures 3 1/4" at its widest point and is 7" tall. The interior is a pale blue "orange peel" enamel. The vase is in excellent condition, and has only one barely detectible chip on one of the beige panels (no dents). Circa early 1900's. LTFL price US $ 295 |

Antique Japanese vase. This exquisitely colored vase includes a great amount of gold fleck, which adds to the rarity, quality, and value of the piece. It measures 7 1/2" inches in width and is 4 1/2" tall. The opening of the vase is 4 3/4" in diameter. The base is a rich dark blue, which well compliments the medium blue band in the middle of the piece. The base metal of the vase is copper and the interior is a pale green "orange peel" enamel. This piece is in exceptional condition as there no dents, or damage to the cloisonné. There are a few typical minor age cracks in the translucent red glaze panels near the top of the piece. Antique footed Japanese cloisonné covered vases/ginger jars. These richly colored jars boast gold fleck in the predominantly rust hue of the background. The matched pair each measures 4" wide by 4 1/4" (including the "artichoke" finial lid). The interior of each jar is a rich dark brown "orange peel" enamel. Each piece is in exceptional condition, as there are no dents, chips or damage to the cloisonné surfaces. Circa late 1880's. LTFL price for the pair US $ 750 |
