antique cloisonnÉ teapots

Cloisonné is the art of applying enamels of all colors to the surface of a metal object, separated by fine soldered/glued wires, which is then fired to become a beautiful work of art. This technique reached its perfection as a result of the efforts of Chinese and Japanese artisans.

Antique footed Japanese cloisonné teapot.

This unusually shaped teapot measures 3 1/4" at the base and is 6 3/4" tall, including the finialed lid (finial needs tightening, and is not broken or bent). The diameter of the tapered opening is 1 3/8".

This piece has a striking band of blued silver foil around the middle.

The teapot is in exceptional condition, as it has no damage to any of the exterior cloisonné surfaces (there is slight damage to the green enamel in the inside of the spout.

The interior of the teapot is blue "orange peel" enamel.

Antique Japanese cloisonné miniature teapot.

This petite example measures 4" from spout to handle and is 2 1/8" tall, including the lid.

The piece has no dents or damage to the cloisonné (other than a fine age crack at the base of the spout).

The interior is dark green "orange peel" enamel and has a small piece that chipped away underneath where the lid fits (not visible, and the piece is at the bottom of the pot).

Antique footed Japanese cloisonné round teapot.

This unique "squatted" teapot measures 4 3/4" including spout and is 4 1/4" tall including the elongated handle.

The entire perimeter of the teapot is surrounded by green and blue silvered foil, making for an extremely colorful piece.

Condition is very good, but the base has a slight indentation (no damage to the cloisonné, and the piece sits level).

Interior is dark green "orange peel" enamel

Circa late 1800's.
