Cloisonné is the art of applying enamels of all colors to the surface of a metal object, separated by fine soldered/glued wires, which is then fired to become a beautiful work of art. This technique reached its perfection as a result of the efforts of Chinese and Japanese artisans.
Collection of 9 antique Chinese and Japanese cloisonné belt buckles.
Collection consists of 3 rectangular buckles on bronze (each measuring 2 5/8" long by 1 1/2" wide), 2 "three circle" buckles on bronze (one measuring 2 7/8" by 1 1/2" and the other measuring 2 3/4" by 1 3/8"), 2 oval buckles on silver (each measuring 2 5/8" by 2", one with silver back and the other with silver/turquoise enamel back), 1 oval buckle on bronze, depicting a 5 toed chinese dragon (measuring 3" by 2 1/4"), and 1 "two-piece" buckle on bronze, with blue foil background and dark green enamel back (measuring 2 7/8" by 1 3/4").
With the exception of some minor damage to the dark green enamel on the "two-piece" buckle, all buckles are in excellent condition, with no damage or chips to any of the front surfaces.
